Artists meet twice during that period to share and discuss their process; the final work is presented at the We Create festival. We Create is a creative think-tank; its a school of thought that deconstructs old paradigms to provide fresh perspectives.

Free Form | Boston LGBTQIA Artist Alliance and Gallery 263

Dance film featured at Gallery 263 in Cambridge, MA.

Exhibition description

For artists who are members of the LGBTQIA+ community, there is often an expectation that our work will be politically driven and tied directly to our experiences of marginalization. We are shouldered with the responsibility of representing, defending, and/or analyzing our identities, and explaining our relationship to the dominant culture. But what do we make for ourselves, when we’re satisfying our own artistic impulses, exploring our medium, or pursuing non- queer specific avenues of creation? What do we have to say when we’re not trying to engage with the heteronormative and cisnormative world? This show seeks to unburden queer & trans artists from the pressures of representation while still celebrating and amplifying our marginalized voices.

A Walking Birthday | Molly Hess

Performed in a show at Green Street Studios, Cambridge, MA.

Show description

On December 14 + 15 at Green Street Studios, cupcakes, slide whistles, glockenspiels, teacups, a ladder, gnomes, potatoes, yarn, and sprinkles will live side by side in choreographer Molly Hess’ chaotic and non-linear landscapes which make up A Walking Birthday.

This collaboratively created evening of dance and music examines identity, community, and relationships with sincerity but not too much seriousness. Throughout the evening the audience will be given authorship and invited to create and play along with the performers

A collage of sounds, smells, sights, and ideas will be offered as a celebration, a treasure hunt, and a dance party.
